Cowboys, Gamblers and Hustlers

In the style of Doyle Brunson's Poker Wisdom of a Champion, Byron "Cowboy" Wolford tells some of the most amazing stories of the early glory days playing poker in smoky backrooms and competing for gold bracelets at the World Series of Poker with poker legends Doyle Brunson, Amarillo Slim, Bobby Baldwin, Puggy Pearson and Johnny Moss.
Get an insider's look at vintage Las Vegas when Comboy's friend, the notorious and dangerous Benny Binion, ruled Glitter Gulch. Ride along with the road gamblers as they faded the white line from Dallas to Shreveport to Houston in the 1960s in search of easy money. Read fascinating yarns about life on the rough and tumble pro rodeo and poker circuits - from shooting loaded dice on hay bales in rodeo barns to finding out the secrets of how the legendary Titanic Thompson pulled off his famous scams. Feel the frustration of getting beaten by a tenth of a second in vintage rodeos, the fear of being hijacked or getting arrested for playing poker, and the challenge of outwitting card sharps and scam artists. Wolford survived it all to win 30 rodeo belt buckles - and a gold bracelet at the World Series of Poker.
Byron "Cowboy" Wolford set the all-time speed record for calf roping at Madison Square Garden in the 1950s, and won back-to-back championships at the Calgary Stampede. In 1960 he became a professional poker player, crisscrossing the South as a road gambler and hustler and went on to win the 1991 World Series of Poker limit hold'em championship.
